10 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

Hey guys! It’s another great day for a post and a discussion.  I’ve been wanting to do this post for a while but I am just now getting around to doing it.  I am gonna share some cool facts about myself today, some things you would never know unless I told you.  So here we go…

1. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio

My parents lived in Ohio for a stint after they got married and had me while they lived there. I think it was way too cold for them so they moved back to Virgina when I was four months old. I have been here ever since and this is really the only place I know.

2. I used to collect Barbie dolls

As a young girl I played with Barbie dolls and was totally obsessed with them. I guess my obsession didn’t go away once I got older because I still freak out when I see a pretty doll. Its’s pretty bad, even when I see the Barbie section of the toy store that 5 year old girl rises up in me! I have a very small collection but I love them all the same. I haven’t added any new pieces in over five years but I have a daughter now and I play with all of her dolls. She isn’t as bad as I was but she does love Barbie. I try not to project my obsession onto her! LOL!

3. I was in the ‘Wizard of Oz’…

I think I was about 12 years old, the Wizard of Oz road show came to VA and they had an open call for cast members. I auditioned and was chosen for the part of one of the munchkin soldiers. I really don’t remember a lot, just that I wore a bright yellow sweatsuit and soldier uniform that was hot and heavy. It was fun and nerve wrecking all at the same time.

4. I was a Cheerleader…

This was one of the most fun times of my life! I was in 7th grade and I know I had wanted to be a cheerleader forever. I got the courage to try out and made the J.V. squad. It was so much fun and I made a lot of friends, some that I am still close to til this day. Our squad both JV and Varsity were championship winning squads that year! One of my best memories growing up.

5. I was Pre-Med…

My freshman year of college I thought that I wanted to be a doctor.  It was a phase of my life that I didn’t know who I was and I was sort of living for other peoples approval. Took my first Biology class and it nearly kicked my butt! It was so hard and I really struggled. Luckily, my professor was a family friend who looked out for me and helped me so much. I managed to survive and actually passed the course with a B+. Well that didn’t last long, enter Chemistry and Zoology… Needless to say I changed my major and that’s how I ended up being a Fashion Major which was what I really wanted to do.

6. Mornings are my best time…

Yes people, I am a morning person. I have been that way I think since I was like 14 years old. I was the one that was up before everybody and always the one to wake my sister up for school. Things haven’t changed much… even if I didn’t get that much sleep the night before I still pop up. It’s a blessing and a curse because I have a hard time sleeping in which really sucks. If it weren’t for me we’d all be late for everything.

7. I’m a Singer…

So basically I have been singing since I was able to talk. I grew up singing in church and did chorus in elementary school. I was in a singing group when I was younger and then again years later with my sister and some other friends . I was a worship leader at the church I grew up in for a long time, up until about 2 or 3 years ago. Singing comes fairly natural to me and I love to do it, but my other passions were so much stronger than singing. I pursued what I loved the most. I feel honored that God gave me this ability. A lot of people wish they could sing so to be able to do it without trying is pretty cool!

8. Country Music is one of my favorite genres…

I am a huge fan of country music! I have loved country music all the way back to the Dixie Chicks, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Martina McBride. This genre has evolved so much that sometimes it sounds more like pop or rock music. What I love most are the harmonies and the lyrics and stories they tell. Some of my more recent favorite artist are: Carrie Underwood, Little Big Town, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flats, Florida Georgia Line, Maren Morris and Kelsey Ballerini.

9. Favorite color is

If you don’t follow me on Instagram @shauntembooker you’re totally missing out because if you did you’d know that my fav color is Green! I am totally nuts in love with this color. Any hue, any shade, any form I love green! My top shade or hue would be the gorgeous Kelly green. It is just so vibrant and rich. The color Greenery was chosen as the 2017 Pantone color of the year. There are so many interesting facts about the color green…
Green is a primary color and can be mixed in different combinations to make many of the other colors on the color wheel. It is the color of life and harmony, nature and energy, growth and the environment. It’s also associated with money, jealousy and ambition. This color is said to have a calming and relaxing affect; it also alleviates stress, depression and anxiety. I guess you can see why I love this color so much. Not to mention it’s my birthstone!
Last but not least…

10. Traveling (where I’ve been and want to go)…

I love to travel and I am making a point to be more intentional so that I can do it more. I have been to several places in the U.S and a couple of places outside the U.S.: I have been to Windsor, Canada which is right outside of Michigan, the Bahamas (Nassau and Grand Cayman), to Florida, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, New Orleans, Maryland/DC, Detroit, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Denver. My travel wishlist for the states: North Dakota (Mt Rushmore), California, and Texas. My overseas wishlist: France (Paris and Versailles), Italy, Spain, Greece, Israel, Egypt, Germany, China (the Great Wall), Australia, Mexico, Ireland and England. There is so much of this beautiful world and I plan to see as much of it as I can.

So that’s it guys. I would love to get to know more about you! Why don’t you share an interesting fact about yourself with me? Can’t wait to hear from you guys!
