Happy new year beautiful people.  The new year always brings us so much hope.  It’s a chance to reset and start over. A great thing to reset is your personal style.  Taking the time to identify how you want to dress every day is a great way to start your year.

Why do you need to identify your personal style? For me, it’s because I have a desire to have a more curated wardrobe and eventually create a wardrobe capsule.  I need to know what style or styles bring me joy and give me the most confidence.  I also want to be able to go into the store and not waste an hour trying to find what to buy.

There is nothing more freeing than being sure of how you want to look when you get dressed or knowing what to buy when you walk into a clothing store.  Having a strong sense of your personal style will give you so much confidence. No matter what trends come you won’t be as easily convinced.  On the other hand, identifying your personal style gives you space to have fun and try out different trends. If it doesn’t work out you’ll have a foundation to fall back on (so-to-speak).

Whether you kind of already have an idea of what you like or you have no idea at all, I am sharing 3 tips to help you identify your personal style.

3 Tips For Identifying Your Personal Style:

Keep It Simple

Finding your style doesn’t have to be complicated. Think about your everyday style, this would mean more staple items and basic pieces. Items such as a crisp white tee or a denim button-down shirt,  a pair of well-fitting jeans, or black pants. These pieces are the foundations of any great wardrobe.  Simple basic pieces that can be mixed and matched and worn over and over again are timeless and never really go out of style.

Use magazines, Pinterest, Youtube, etc. to find different styles that you love and identify with.  For example, I recently was able to identify my personal style from watching a Youtube video.   Now I have always been super stylish and putting looks together just seems to come naturally to me, but watching this video solidified what my personal style was.   Any doubts or questions that may have been swirling in my head were answered.

I learned this from one of my mentors in this influencer marketing business.  Reference Everything! Even when it comes to finding your personal style.  You are not copying, you are simply referencing.  Using other mediums and resources to get information and inspiration.  It will give your brain some direction.

Here is a great post that goes into even more detail and breaks down 11 different style types.  It’s a really helpful article and fun to see what style type you fall into.

Try Different Looks

You might find a few different styles that you really like and you may not be able to decide on just one.  I would say try a few different ones until you find the one (or three) that makes you feel confident and beautiful.   Fashion is a cycle, there is rarely anything new under the sun.  Most trends are adaptations of past decades. Most style types are a combination of a bunch of different styles.  It may take you some time and some experimenting, but be patient with yourself.

I love to find ways to simplify things, and these tips make will make your whole style journey so much easier.  When you begin to identify your personal style, then you will know how to shop.  When you shop with more intention you can begin to curate the type of wardrobe you’ve always dreamed about.
